Shabbat and Holidays

Shabbat

During the academic year, we celebrate Shabbat weekly (except during school breaks and certain long weekends – check our calendar or Facebook for details). Liberal and Traditional-egalitarian services are student-led, and delicious Shabbat dinners are prepared in-house by our chefs and student volunteers.

    Everyone is welcome!

Shabbat Sponsorship

the Hillel Way - Shabbat

Parents, Alumni, and Community Members – Do you want to have a positive impact on students’ lives, fill their bellies with good kosher food, and make Shabbat a memorable experience? Please consider sponsoring a Shabbat! Contact Chani Oppenheim, Executive Director, for details: coppenheim@hillelhouse.org; 530-756-3708, Ext. 1.

Holidays

We have lots of fun celebrating Jewish holidays throughout the year – from Chanukah parties, to hamantaschen baking, to an amazing student-led seder, and more! Check our calendar and Facebook to see what’s on the horizon.

Need to take a day off school to observe a Jewish Holiday? Submit your request in writing, for each course, at the beginning of the quarter. Talk to your Academic Adviser for more details.

Questions? Interested in volunteering to cook Shabbat dinner? Want to lead, or learn how to lead, Shabbat services? Want to help plan a holiday celebration? Contact Ben Zeiger, Program Director at programs@hillelhouse.org. For a list of Jewish Holidays in 2016-17 (5776 - 5777) go to Hebcal.com.
